Quick troubleshooting

My location isn't updating

Open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Safely, and make sure it's set to 'Always.' Background App Refresh must be on (Settings → General → Background App Refresh). If that's all correct, force-quit Safely and reopen it once.

A family member's battery says 'unknown'

Battery reporting requires the other person's app to have been opened at least once in the last 24 hours, with Low Power Mode off. It usually fixes itself after the next app open.

My invite code isn't working

Codes expire 24 hours after they're generated. Tap 'Invite' on the family screen to generate a new one. Codes are always 6 digits, all numbers, no letters.

I can't cancel my subscription from the app

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not Safely. Open the App Store app → tap your profile picture → Subscriptions → Safely → Cancel. The change applies at the end of your current billing period.

I want to leave a family / delete my account

Open Safely → Settings → Account → 'Leave family' or 'Delete account.' Deletion removes all your data within 30 days, irreversibly.

Is there a web version?

Not yet. Safely is designed around iOS background location and Live Activities, which don't exist on the web. An Android version is on our roadmap.

Frequently asked questions

Does Safely drain my battery?

No. We use Apple's Significant Location Change API and geofencing — the same battery-efficient system Find My uses. In our tests, Safely adds less than 2% to daily battery use on an iPhone 15.

Do my kids know I can see them?

Yes. Safely is not stealth tracking. Every family member sees the full family map — parents, kids, partners, grandparents. Transparency is a feature, not an afterthought.

How does it work in the background?

Safely uses standard iOS background location. After you grant permission, the app updates location when it matters — arriving at a saved place, significant movement, or a family member checking in.

Can I cancel the subscription?

Anytime. Open the App Store app, tap your profile, tap Subscriptions, and cancel Safely. Your free trial continues through its final day. No retention calls, no guilt trips.

What countries does Safely work in?

Anywhere iOS works and the App Store is available — 175+ countries. The app ships in English, Spanish, and French today, with more languages coming.

What happens if I lose my phone?

Your family can still see your last known location on the map. When you get your phone back and sign in with Apple, you're back in the family instantly — no data to migrate.

Can kids under 13 use Safely?

Yes, with parental setup. A parent creates the family, invites the child's device, and manages the account. We comply with COPPA: no data collected from children without verifiable parental consent. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Is Safely a replacement for emergency services?

No. Safely is a communication tool for families — a way to share arrival alerts and know everyone is where they should be. In an emergency, always call your local emergency number (911 in the US, 112 in EU, 911 in Mexico).

If a family member's location is stuck for more than 20 minutes, that's an app issue on their device, not ours — tell them to open the app once.
